TreeKeepers Certification Program

What is the TreeKeepers Program?

TreeKeepers is Trees Atlanta's volunteer training and certification program. TreeKeepers consists of seven workshops, including indoor & outdoor activities, presentations, and engaging hands-on demonstrations. Each three-hour session takes place at the Trees Atlanta Kendeda Center, and is taught by Trees Atlanta staff or community tree professionals. Participants receive a citizen's forestry guide full of exciting resources and much more.

The TreeKeepers graduate team will be certified in a manner that applies skill, appreciation, and pride to the stewardship of our urban forest.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be provided with opportunities to put their new knowledge into action!

2010 TreeKeepers sessions are from 9-noon on August 7th, 14th, 21nd, 28th and September 11th, 18th, and 25th. (Note: no class on September 4th.) Light breakfast will be served before each session.

Training is suited for all levels of botanical knowledge and will cover:

  • Atlanta's Trees & Urban Forests
  • Tree Selection, Planting, and Care
  • Tree Diseases and Invasive Plants
  • Proper Tree Pruning
  • Project Leadership and Community Outreach

Not only will you gain book knowledge, but you also will receive the field training and experience that reinforces what you've learned.

TreeKeepers will receive an official TreeKeepers hat, a manual, a native tree, and a signed certificate when they have volunteered 24 hours to tree projects, whether with Trees Atlanta or another organization.

To assist toward the completion of these hours, Trees Atlanta has regular planting, tree care, and forest restoration projects where TreeKeeper leadership is valued. Additionally, TreeKeepers may choose to work independently in their own community.

How can I participate?

The 2010 session is now closed to new registration.  Be sure to apply next summer!
