About the Artist

Rounded image shows a woman sitting on rocks on top of a mountain looking out at a cloudy sky with a mountain range in the background.

Elizabeth Lang is a self-taught artist inspired by the natural world. She utilizes simplified shapes and synthesized colors to create her landscape paintings. Elizabeth draws her inspiration from hikes and travels, including frequent trips to the Appalachian Mountains and trails around Atlanta. Elizabeth loves how Atlanta’s urban forest provides city dwellers with access to nature and the sense of peace you can find on a walk in the woods.

For Trees Atlanta’s 2025 holiday card, Elizabeth created a winter scene with a few of her favorite trees and evergreens in the southeast. In this painting, trees frame the city skyline on a snowy day. We can imagine wildlife hidden among the low boughs of the trees and footprints that will be tracked along the meandering path. The trees depicted on the card are inspired by deodar cedar, southern magnolia, eastern redcedar, sycamore, loblolly pine, and American holly.

“I believe the natural world brings health and wellbeing to our lives and is a necessary wildness in an often chaotic world. My goal is for my art to embody the peace, spirituality, and clarity I find in nature and hope to share with those around me.”

Elizabeth has volunteered with Trees Atlanta leading art workshops focusing on trees through painting. She frequently shows her artwork in cities throughout the country.
