Trees are a critical element of a healthy community. During this session, Atlanta Urban Ecologists will become better informed stewards of our urban forest by exploring the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum and gaining a better understanding of the dynamic role that trees play in the urban ecosystem.

We’ll spend most of our day outside on the Atlanta BeltLine where we’ll learn how to start identifying a few trees commonly found in Atlanta by using a dichotomous key. Our tour of the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail will let us put our knowledge into practice by identifying trees on the Arboretum. Students will also participate in a service-learning project (tree planting or invasive plant removal) and discuss the impact of canopy cooling effect of trees.
