Atlanta’s Pristine Forests Walking Tour: Morningside Nature Preserve
Get your hiking shoes on and join us as we explore Morningside Nature Preserve right at the beginning of peak fall color!
Originally known as the Wildwood Urban Forest, this 35 acre tract of wooded land in northeast Atlanta was protected from development after neighborhood residents worked for 3 years to stop its destruction. The City of Atlanta purchased the property in 2001, with the sale negotiated by The Nature Conservancy.
Morningside Nature Preserve features varied topography, including trails that ascend a short but steep climb, travel along boardwalks, cross a suspension bridge over the south fork of Peachtree Creek, and also meander through low, floodplain woodlands. Morningside Nature Preserve is home to a number of great trees, including black willow, sweetgum, and numerous oaks, including some large white oaks.
Tour will start from the gravel parking area off of Lenox Road NE (near street #2020).
Special thanks to the City of Atlanta for help supporting the Trees Atlanta tree tours!
