Boater Restoration Planting:Veterans’ Medical Center
Help us restore the Veterans’ Medical Center to its native glory!
Are you a canoeist or a kayaker? Come plant on the water with us! We’ll be planting riparian tree species (elderberry, willow silky dogwood, etc.) in partnership with the South Fork Conservancy to help stabilize the stream bank and mitigate erosion. We’re doing it from boats because some spots are steep and deep, plus – why not?
This section of the South Fork of the Peachtree Creek runs between the VA Medical Center and Emory’s Lullwater campus in Decatur. It is slow, flat water (no whitewater here), but please bring safety gear.
- We’ll meet and put-in boats on the VA medical center side of the creek right by the Clairmont entrance. After you unload, parking is available in the VA lot, but it can be very crowded. We encourage carpooling and early arrival!
- Plants, tools and gloves will be provided by Trees Atlanta.
- Boaters need to bring their own paddling gear: PFD, paddle, helmet, spray skirt and boat. (And dry gear as needed. It will likely be chilly.)
