Lunch & Learn: Scouting Lichens in the Urban Forest
We host a very casual monthly brown bag lunch at the TreeHouse. Each month, we invite a Trees Atlanta staff or crew member, volunteer, or friend to present an interesting environmental topic for discussion. Brown bag Lunch & Learns are typically on the second Thursday of each month.
Come meet Malcolm Hodges, one of the top two lichenologists in the Georgia lichen community. Even if you don’t know what a lichen is, this Lunch & Learn will be a great conversation about the diversity of life that can be found in Georgia’s largest city. Hodges has worked for The Nature Conservancy for 24 years as an ecologist and naturalist. He is a well-known birder and plays many roles in the Georgia Ornithological Society, the Georgia Plant Conservation Alliance and other conservation initiatives. He’s even got a couple of lichen species named for him, including Arthonia hodgesii.
