Tom Saielli, coordinator for the American Chestnut Foundation Southern Regional Science, will be presenting on the past and future of the American Chestnut (Castanea dentata).

His presentation will focus on the dramatic rise and fall of this once important hardwood timber tree and will cover the following:

  • the background, history and ecology of the American Chestnut
  • the accidental introduction of chestnut blight and the demise of the species
  • The American Chestnut Foundation’s breeding program
  • how you can get involved in local chestnut restoration efforts

Trees Atlanta is partnering with The American Chestnut Foundation on a chestnut demonstration site which is located on the West End section of the Atlanta BeltLine. The Isdell Family Foundation has generously sponsored this project.
